A breakthrough hydrogen and oxygen utilization in a H2-O2 PEMFC stack with dead-ended anode and cathode

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have been wildly used for marine and aerospace applications as energy devices, where pure hydrogen oxygen are fed into the two sides of electrode assembly (MEA). The release unreacted not only reduces efficiency system but also causes serious problem starvation. For this reason, flow driving devices methods such pumps, ejectors, solenoid valves designed to recycle unused gas. However, even with these gas environment is still inevitable. Therefore, paper introduces a novel method that solves problems mitigates emissions using dead-ended anode cathode (DEAC) system. Pressure difference formed between inlet outlet PEMFC by controlling purge valve remove water during purging. dynamic response characteristics under different current densities, pressure differences, purging intervals experimentally investigated in detail. results show both utilizations can reach 100% collection generated be achieved DEAC mode.
